Light and fire

Sami Wassaf

When some activist friends graciously invited me to contribute a piece in the electronic magazine “Al-Nar Wal-Nur” or  “Fire and Light”, my memory drifted to the days of an older magazine “Burouk wa Ruoud”  or “Lightning and Thunder” which was published in Lebanon for a very short duration from March 23, 1968 to July 23, 1968.

Burouk wa Ruoud was an intellectual, literary, and scientific magazine published by a group of passionate thinkers including university professors and writers.

At that time, I was a young student majoring in Physics at the Lebanese University of Beirut . I had the honor of contributing a six scientific articles discussing the origin of the universe and the solar system, based on available theories and scientific research at the time of the magazine’s publications. My sixth article for the sixth and last edition focused on black hole and supernova.

However, before that edition was released, it was stopped by the Lebanese Press Syndicate, which is  supposed to guard freedom

of speech and defend liberties. This was done under pressure and directives from sectarian entities known for their history of oppression and persecution of brave and sincere intellectuals thinkers. This was their modus operandi even before the martyrdom of Asaad Shidiyak, and the discrimination of Amine Al-Rihani, Gibran Khalil Gibran, Mikhail Mashaqa, Anton Saadeh, and Dr. Dahesh, who had their literary works banned from their curricula.  They initiated a frenzied and embarked on a fervent rumor campaign to divert attention from the noble ideologies that promoted faith in all religions and rejected sectarian fanaticism.

Once again, their tunnel vision and lack of tolerance to new ideas and original thinking prevented them from allowing a few pages presenting the daheshist ideas through a Q&A section between readers and Dr. Dahesh.

At the end, the authoritarian religious entities got what they wanted and “Burouk Wa Ruoud” ceased publication on July of 1968.

The days pass and the years go by, 27 long years, yet the spark of “lightning and thunder” still burns, and its light did shine once again in the “Dahesh Voice” magazine (1995-2008) published in Manhattan, New York, the city of intellectual freedom par excellence.

Dr. Ghazi Brax served as its editor, just as he practically worked for “Burouk Wa Ruoud” and it continued to be published in New York in both Arabic and English for years.

“Dahesh Voice” as “Burrouk Wa Ruoud “ was a rich cultural, intellectual, and artistic magazine with diverse topics and writers from various backgrounds.

It relied on high-quality printing, sought no profit,

did not publish advertisements, and had a symbolic price. Its sustainability depended on silent donors and many volunteer writers who only sought to spread culture. However, since these donors were few, and with minimal revenue from distribution, it failed to sustain itself after 13 years and ceased publication.

Fifteen years have passed , but the fire of lightning and thunder never fades. Yet, the spark of “Burouk Wa Ruoud” still flickers and its light glows once again through the electronic platform called “Al-Nar Wal-Nur” (Fire and Light). We hope for the completion of its mission and success in spreading culture and values, upholding the word of truth that Dr. Dahesh laid its foundations. He dedicated his life and legacy to the dissemination of faith and virtue with a delicate artistic style, unwavering determination, and a transcendent courage that surpasses borders

.

Based on sincerity, innovation, and mastery, Dr. Dahesh emphasized designing and producing his books in-line with his comprehensive culture and refined artistic sensibility. Any comparison between the development of Arabic book printing before and after the emergence of Dr. Dahesh’s books will reveal the revolutionary impact of this remarkable man and unique personality.

Thus, I wish the organizers of this electronic platform success in their unwavering determination to uphold the word of truth. The effort they chose to embark on is noble, their responsibility is heavy, and in this choice, they stand between fire and light. Therefore, I hope for their steadfastness and sincere dedication.

The Fog

Dr. Dahesh
Fog!
Heavy fog surrounds my soul…and restrains it with chains!
Dense fog! In the sky of my life!
It encircles me the way a bracelet encircles the wrist of a beautiful woman!

Bright as the Sunshine¹

His face was bright like the sun, luminous like the stars, wonderful, inspiring piety and reverence. He was dressed in a mantle of sparkling rays, and a double-edged sword,

Conflicts of Our Time- Opinion

Dr. Mohamad Younes
Conflicts and wars of our times have proven without doubt one indisputable fact: Mankind has degenerated to the lowest moral extent.

Our Mission

We are a group of individuals from all walks of life and dispersed throughout the world, who had the privilege of being exposed to Daheshism. Some of us had an opportunity to: be with Dahesh, witness his miracles, travel with him, live with him, and listen to his wisdom. Although some of us have never had the pleasure of meeting Dahesh in person, due to age or circumstances, yet our faith in him and in his Mission is strong—it is always reassuring to remember the words of Lord Christ: “…How happy are those who believe without seeing me!” (John 20:29). The content of this web site has been collected from magazine and newspaper interviews and reports and other publications. Although this web site is limited in content at this early stage of development, it is expected to grow significantly as fellow Daheshists finish preparing testimonials about their experiences with Dahesh and Daheshism. This site is meant to be a source of information for anyone interested in learning about Dahesh, his life, Mission, miracles, accomplishments, and legacy. The individuals involved with this web site do not represent any organization of any kind. Please use the “Contact Us” button to send us any comments or questions that you may have about this web site, Dahesh, or Daheshism. Thanks you for visiting our web site and we hope that you visit us again soon!.

We are writing for a better human being.
